Review: L’Oréal Paris New Hydra Fresh

I'd been using the L’Oréal Paris New Hydra Fresh series for sometime now and today I'm going to review all 4 products from this range. ^_^

To know more about the products, you can refer to my previous post about the launch of the New Hydra Fresh.

How to use?
Before I review, I shall start by listing the various ways of using Hydra Fresh.
1. The recommended regimen:
Hydra Fresh Hydrating Refreshing Creamy FoamSoftening Spa WaterMask-In LotionSupreme Emulsion

2. Sometimes we have other essences or serums that we would like to use as well, we can insert them in our regimen like so:
Hydra Fresh Hydrating Refreshing Creamy Foam → Softening Spa Water → Mask-In Lotion → Essence/Serum → Supreme Emulsion
or  just:
Hydra Fresh Hydrating Refreshing Creamy Foam → Softening Spa Water → Mask-In Lotion → Essence/Serum (if your essence/serum is the type that can be used as the last step of your skin care regimen)

3. For weekly treatment, you can soak a dry mask sheet with Mask-In Lotion but before that do use Spa Water first to soften the skin like so:
Softening Spa Water → (Sheet Mask soaked with) Mask-In Lotion→ Supreme Emulsion
After masking, apply Supreme Emulsion to seal the moisture within the skin.

4. Other methods of using Hydra Fresh skincare:
- Wet your foundation sponge with the Mask-In Lotion before applying your foundation for longer-lasting and fresher looking makeup.
- Spray lightly onto skin to refresh your complexion and fix your makeup.
- Wet your Q-Tip with Spa Water or Mask-In Lotion to clean up mid-day eye makeup smudges.
- Soak cotton pad with Mask-In Lotion and place on to dryer skin areas (eg, cheeks and forehead).

Hydra Fresh Hydrating Refreshing Creamy Foam
The creamy foam does not come with any box packaging.
Details written in Chinese at the back of the tube. (L'Oreal Paris Singapore had confirmed that Hydra Fresh in stores will have all product information in English)

I'd been using them for awhile now so please forgive for the not-so-clean products in my pics. ^.^"

Expiry date can be found on the top of the tube at the sealed area. Mine shows 2016 May 24.

Swatch
Pearl pink creamy foam.

After lathering it up by adding a little water, it turns into a very creamy and rather thick paste. My paste subsided during the picture taking... ^.^"
Review
- smells pretty fresh, has a nice floral mix with a bit of fruity scent but not too pungent
- lathers up really nicely into a thick creamy white paste with slight foam
- cleanses and removes impurities & left over makeup pretty well
- removes all greases very well
- doesn't sting my eyes
- after rinsing off, it has a very squeaky after-feel (really very squeaky!)
- skin doesn't feel too tight after rinsing
- after coming out from bathroom, my skin tend to feel dry so I need to moisturize it immediately
Though it cleanses good but I had wished it could retain some of my skin moisture after that, because I could feel that the skin surface feels dry. The skin only starts to become taut after a minute or so if I don't moisturize it right away.

Hydra Fresh Hydrating Softening Spa Water
Box packaging written in Chinese. (Will be in English for products bought at stores)

Expiry Date stamped at bottom of box.

Every box contains the instructions slip, teaching us how to use the 4 products from the Hydra Fresh range.

Again, please pardon my not-so-clean products in my pics. ^.^"
The first step of skin care after the creamy foam (cleanser) is the Hydrating Softening Spa Water.
It acts as a skin softener right after the cleanser.

Expiry date stamped on the bottom of the bottle too.

A rather big outlet for easy pouring of the content.

Even though Spa water is rather thick which I usually would prefer to just use my hands to pat it on my skin, but I feel that by using cotton pad makes the spa water more cooling on my skin.
If the Spa water is poured onto my hands, it changes the temperature and doesn't feel as cooling.
Below shows cotton pad soaked with Spa water. To fully soaked it to the borders, I fold the cotton pad and press it then unfold it again.

Swatch
Swatching the Spa water on the half right back of my hand. As can see, there is totally no greasiness or glossy texture after it is absorbed by my skin.

Face Swatch
Semi-translucent clear lotion. It is not too watery so it doesn't flow that fast down my face when I put a droplet on it. Doesn't make my skin appear glossy or oily.
Review
- grapey, floral plus a hint of zest scent
- semi-thick kind of lotion
- very easy to spread
- feels cooling even without having to put it into the fridge (although it's recommended to do so)
- feels smooth, hydrating and immediately quenches my thirsty skin
- quite soothing
- absorbs quite fast into my skin
- using cotton pad to pat on makes the Spa water absorb even faster
- reduces my skin temperature thus doesn't make me feel so hot and humid in my rather hot room (^-^")
- doesn't leave even a trace of grease or gloss on my skin at all
- doesn't cause any irritation or breakout
- only feels slightly tingling on the surrounding skin around my lips
I love how this Spa water feels on my skin, so soothing and cooling, immediately hydrates my rather dry skin surface after face wash. What's best is that it doesn't make my oily-combi skin any oilier. And that is also why I use the Spa Water faster than other products (lolx~), I pour a generous amount on the cotton pad everytime I use and sometimes I also apply it on my arms and legs just to cool the skin temperature down and hydrate them at the same time. ^_^

Hydra Fresh Hydration + Antiox Active Mask-In Lotion
Descriptions and ingredients are in Chinese on all of the box packaging for the ones I receive. (Hydra Fresh in stores will have all product information in English)

Expiry date stamped on bottom of box, however it is not stamped on the bottom of the Mask-In Lotion bottle.

This is a skin/face lotion, in another words a toner but one that contains more hydrating properties. Lotion is to be used right after skin softener and preferably not to be skipped. Simliar to the Spa Water, the lotion is semi-translucent kind but is thicker.

Same bottle design as the Spa Water.

When I open the lid, something bubbly appeared. Lolx~

Swatch
For the Mask-In Lotion, it appears to look slightly glossy on my skin after it's been absorbed.

Face Swatch
Comparing the before & after application of the Mask-In Lotion on my face in the below pictures, you can see that the skin in pic #3 looks glossier.
 Review
- Hydra Fresh products all smell pretty much the same
- semi-thick kind of lotion, thicker than Spa Water
- quite easy to spread out
- doesn't feel cooling as Spa Water unless it's been put in a fridge
- even when placed in the fridge, the lotion doesn't stay icy cool as it'll turn warm quickly once spread on my face
- using cotton pad feels nicer and more soothing than using hands to spread the lotion onto my face
- feels like applying a mask serum on face as it's pretty thick
- takes sometime for the lotion to be fully absorbed
- using cotton pad to pat on makes the Mask-In Lotion absorb faster
- quite moisturizing
- softens and relax the areas that are dry and tight
- leaves a sticky after-feel, and feels a little greasy
- skin feels a little warm

When used as a face mask:
- need quite a lot of lotion in order to soak a dry sheet mask
- takes awhile for the sheet mask to be fully soaked because the lotion isn't watery kind and it's pretty thick so absorption takes slightly longer
- skin feels relaxed and moisturized when I put on the mask
- lotion doesn't turn warm when in contact with my skin (unlike when used as daily lotion)
- after removing the mask, I pat the lotion to get it fully absorbed
- skin feels more moisturized and supple
- has sticky after-feel and appear a little glossy on my face

When used as a overnight mask:
I'd also tried using it as overnight mask by applying generously on my face after using the Spa Water. Then massage and pat it to get it fully absorbed into my skin. To protect both my face and pillow & also for hygiene purpose, I place a face towel over the pillow when I sleep.
- skin has sticky after-feel and appear quite glossy on my face right after application
- after a night's sleep, my skin doesn't look very greasy but still can see abit of gloss on skin surface (maybe because the towel had took away the grease)
- after washing face, skin feels fresh, moisturized and soft
- face appear a little bit brighter

Overall:
- doesn't cause any irritation
- may be rich for my neck area so I tend to avoid applying there
- doesn't prevent white heads/ oil bumps (usually at my jawline and neck)
The lotion feels sticky and makes my face look a little greasy except for the method where I use the cotton pad that's previously soaked with Spa Water, later soak with Mask-In Lotion again. By using the same cotton pad to apply the lotion, it makes it less sticky and greasy and at the same time skin feels cooling too (because of the Spa Water).
Though the lotion feels sticky, it is fine with me as there is still another skincare step which is the moisturizer (Supreme Emulsion). The lotion will be able to grab on to the next product well since it's sticky.
I prefer using Mask-In Lotion as a mask (sheet mask & overnight mask) as it gives better hydration than being used as a daily lotion. If time allows, I will do a quick mask in the morning before I do my makeup.
Recommended to use about 3 droplets for whole face as it may be too much for oily-combi and oily skin (Less is more), unless using the cotton pad method that I mentioned before.

Hydra Fresh Hydration + Antiox Active Supreme Emulsion
Description in Chinese and expiry date stamped on bottom of the box. (Hydra Fresh in stores will have all product information in English)

Pink chrome square tub, quite cute!

The Supreme Emulsion is actually a gel-cream, more towards gel than cream.

Swatch
After absorbed into the skin, it makes the skin surface a bit glossy.

Face Swatch
Appears slightly glossy but not as much as the Mask-In Lotion.
Review
- Hydra Fresh products all smell pretty much the same
- has alcohol smell in it
- light gel-cream
- very easy to spread
- feels cooling (more so than Spa Water) even without having to put it into the fridge (although it's recommended to do so)
- feels very silky & smooth
- non-greasy texture
- absorbs rather quickly into my skin
- this time round I don't use cotton pad, I just use my hands to spread it and lightly pat to absorb
- makes the previous Mask-In Lotion stickiness gone
- skin feels cooling, a little bit hydrated and soft
- has tiny bit greasy after-feel, yet has this semi-matte finish at the same time
- doesn't cause any irritation or breakout
- doesn't prevent white/black heads & oil spots
Supreme Emulsion to me isn't a hydrating moisturizer, it feels more like a sealer, the last layer of skincare that help seals in all the hydration that I'd gotten from the Spa Water and Mask-In Lotion and at the same time providing silky, smooth, semi-matte finish, all ready for makeup.
It feels really soothing when applied on since it has this cooling factor and is light weight.
On the other hand though, because one of the ingredient in the emulsion is dimethicone (a type of silicone) so it tend to clog some of my pores (I'm prone to clogged pores). I avoid using it when I have any inflammation/pimples or oil spots so that the emulsion will not clog them any further.
On normal days though, I still use it as it feels pretty good on my skin. ^_^
